IT Security Policy

Here at Borchers Trust Law, our IT networks are continually monitored by a dedicated IT staff, in addition to industry-leading security software. We remain vigilant to cybersecurity concerns and committed to identifying and mitigating hacking attempts as quickly as possible.

IT specialists and software are only pieces of the cybersecurity puzzle. Unfortunately, security breaches happen to even the most prepared organizations. In order to best protect our networks, it’s essential to be aware of potential threats and how to prevent cybersecurity breaches to the best of our ability.

Please review the following policies we’ve implemented in addition to our existing security software and IT personnel.

Email Security Policy

Email continues to be one of the most persistent security vulnerabilities for many companies and organizations. We strive to improve the security of emails sent by us to prevent hacks, spoofs, phishes, and other nefarious activities. However, it’s still possible for any email to be manipulated, because, by nature, email isn’t very secure.

If you receive a suspicious email or a message that doesn’t make sense – even if it appears to have come from our team

Reply to the sender

Here’s what to do instead:

  • Delete the email and call us at 508-803-1900 to inform the sender so that we can confirm whether the email is valid or not. If it is valid, we can always resend it.
  • Review the listing in your inbox carefully before you choose to open the email. If you have any questions as to its validity, delete it.
  • Check with the sender before you open the email, especially if it contains documents, attachments, or links to third-party sites.

Attachments or links in the email should only be opened when you have a high level of confidence, no matter whom it comes from.

Online Form Security

Borchers Trust Law will never ask you to fill out anything online that requires your personal identifying information such as account numbers, driver’s license, Social Security Number, or passwords.

The only forms we will require you to fill out online are our:

  1. Website payment portal, which is secure and asks for an invoice number when paying by credit card.
  2. Secure document transfer system, Clio, requires your own password.
  3. Online appointment booking system, estate planning questionnaire, newsletter signup, links in our newsletters, and webinar and seminar signups, which only require your name, email address, and/or a phone number. These are available only through our website and in emails provided from our staff in response to your inquiries directly or through our website.

Occasionally we may use services other than those listed above, but only when we have communicated ahead of time that we are doing so.

If you have any questions regarding this policy, please reach out to us at 508-803-1900.
